About

What is Hatha Yoga?

When we roll out our yoga mats we are allowing ourselves a moment of exploration.

A chance to move, stretch and strengthen our body physically in asanas (postures), we focus our mind, stilling the internal chatter and connect our breath to movement.

We all come to the mat with different bodies and different life experiences.  By learning to really tune in to our needs, yoga becomes non competitive allowing us freedom to play and grow at our own pace.

As we connect to our body in this way, we learn more about ourselves, helping us to de-stress and cope with everything that life throws our way.

Why do it?

People come to Yoga for many different reasons.  It can depend how you are doing physically or what you have going on in your life, but there are many great reasons to keep coming back to your mat!

Physical benefits:

  • Stretching! Not only can it help with flexibility but it releases endorphins and makes you feel good.
  • Improve your muscle strength and keep the aches and pains away.
  • Help you think about your posture in every day life.
  • Learn relaxation techniques that you can use whenever you need them.

Emotional benefits include:

  • Release stress and tension making you able to cope better.
  • Balances emotion and improves sense of well-being.
  • Get a good nights sleep.

My class

I will begin the class by settling mind and body by guiding you through a simple breathing exercise known as pranayama. These may be different each week but will be talked through and demonstrated so they are accessible for all.

Next we warm up the whole body, really connecting our breath to movement, so that we can enjoy the whole journey.

This brings us to our peak posture which will be different each week.  These can be anything from forward bends which turn us inward and are deeply relaxing or heart opening poses which invite vulnerability and energy!

Instructions will be given throughout, injuries will always be taken into account and props will be available to help support your body in poses if needed.
